Whelen Part Number Decoder
Whelen prices a model and sells a part number. Paste the model and this fills in the letters: every number it becomes, and the color each one is.

A star is one color, a hash is a two-color pair and a hash-star is a three-color set. Each position is filled on its own, so a model with two placeholders is every combination of the two.
Works on anything with a placeholder in it: a lighthead, a bar, a hideaway.

Part numbers and colors only. Whelen publishes the color codes; prices are between you and your distributor.
Why This Exists
We had to solve this to load a catalog
UpfitHQ is shop software for police, fire and fleet upfitters. Setting a shop up means loading their price books, and Whelen’s list prices a model rather than a part number, so the software had to learn the color codes before it could put a real catalog in front of anybody.
This is that, on its own, for free. If you want the rest of it, the demo opens without a password.

The real software with a made-up shop in it: quotes, jobs, parts, a drawn cruiser and a tech’s phone. Click anything. It resets itself.
